Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao arrived in Dhaka on Saturday, May 31, 2025, to strengthen trade and investment ties and advance the ‘Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership’ between Bangladesh and China.

Leading a delegation of over 250 representatives from 100 Chinese companies, Wang’s visit marks the largest business delegation to Bangladesh, according to Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen.

On Sunday, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus will inaugurate the Bangladesh-China Conference on Investment and Trade in Dhaka, with Minister Wang attending as a special guest.

The daylong event, organised by the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), will facilitate engagement between Bangladeshi and Chinese business communities to explore trade and investment opportunities.

“This conference will foster greater cooperation and yield fruitful outcomes in China-Bangladesh economic and trade relations,” said Ambassador Yao, emphasizing the visit’s signal of openness and mutual benefit.

Wang’s two-day visit includes a bilateral meeting with Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin, who will host a dinner in his honor on Saturday, and a meeting with Chief Adviser Yunus on Sunday.

The delegation includes top executives from Chinese companies and representatives of four Chinese chamber bodies.

Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder noted that the conference builds on a recent investment summit in Dhaka, aiming to deepen economic collaboration.
