Potato Fest begins Dec 12
Bangladesh is gearing up to pitch its fast-growing potato sector to global investors at the upcoming ‘Potato Festival 2025’, set to kick off at ICCB in Dhaka on December 12.
Announcing the event at a press briefing on Saturday, Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu, president of the Bangladesh Cold Storage Association (BCSA), said the festival aims to position potatoes as a high-value export commodity and attract investment in modern storage, processing and cold-chain logistics.
Despite being the 7th largest potato producer globally and 3rd in Asia, Bangladesh has yet to unlock the crop’s full commercial potential – largely due to outdated storage systems, limited processing facilities and export infrastructure gaps, speakers noted.
The exhibition will bring together hundreds of local and international companies across the potato value chain – from seed and production technology to processing, value-added foods, storage solutions and agritech innovation.
BCSA leaders said the festival will also highlight emerging opportunities in potato-based food manufacturing, frozen products, starch industries and culinary innovation—areas seen as key to boosting export earnings.
The briefing was attended by senior BCSA officials including Senior Vice President Eshtiaque Ahmed, Vice President Mohammed Younus and Postmaster Communication Managing Director Faizul Alam.
