21 withdraw from DUCSU polls; campaign begins today
Twenty-one candidates have withdrawn their nominations from the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, as Monday was the last day for withdrawal.
Chief Returning Officer Professor Dr Mohammad Jasim Uddin confirmed the information.
Earlier, at a press conference, he said no major violation of the electoral code of conduct had been reported so far. To prevent any such violations in the future, the Chief Returning Officer and his team are closely monitoring the process. If any inequality or discrimination is noticed and submitted in writing, necessary measures will be taken as per the rules. From Tuesday, candidates will be allowed to begin formal campaigning in line with the regulations.
He further said that, to avoid complications on polling day, voters will be able to cast their ballots by showing a hall card, university ID card, library card, or pay-in slip. A meeting with all VP, GS, and AGS candidates on the code of conduct will be held at the Senate Bhaban on Tuesday at 11:00 am.
The Public Relations Office has also requested voters who do not wish to have their photographs displayed in the voter list to apply to the Chief Returning Officer by August 27.
In female halls, non-residential candidates of the respective halls, along with residential and non-residential candidates of other female halls, will be allowed to campaign daily from August 26 to September 7, 2025, between 10:00 am and 10:00 pm.
The final voter list for the DUCSU and Hall Union Elections 2025 had earlier been made public. Following applications from students, it has now been closed. However, the list will remain accessible to the concerned halls and offices.
Meanwhile, in the meeting of the tribunal committee, formed to resolve appeals of the DUCSU and Hall Union elections and to settle complaints of code of conduct violations, held on 24 August 2025, Julius Caesar Talukdar and Bayezid Bostami were recommended for exclusion from the voter and candidate lists due to their involvement in terrorist activities and links with banned organizations. The matter has been sent to the Syndicate for administrative action.
On the other hand, since the allegations against Asaduzzaman Jilani and Md. Khairul Alam were not duly proven, and the complaint letter lacked the complainant’s signature, no decision has been taken regarding them.
