1,172 teachers with fake certificate traced, 779 in Rajshahi div
The Directorate of Inspection and Audit (DIA) of the Ministry of Education has identified 1,172 teachers in private educational institutions across the country who were employed using fake certificates.
The highest number, 779, were found in districts under the Rajshahi division.
In the first phase, the DIA will send a list of 400 teachers with confirmed fake certificates to the Ministry of Education, along with a recommendation for punitive action.
The report further recommends recovering 793 acres of land lost from educational institutions, investigating fake appointments and embezzlement, and returning around Tk 253 crore to the government exchequer due to various irregularities, including VAT and income tax.
According to the DIA’s analysis, certificates of 400 individuals were found to be entirely fake, while around 300 more were deemed unacceptable.
Division-wise, Rajshahi tops the list with 779 fake certificate holders. The report also identifies 120 in the Directorate of Madrasa Education, 179 in Khulna, 70 in Dhaka, and 24 in Chattogram.
The DIA noted that fake certificates were issued in the name of NTRCA teacher registration, National University, Open University, Royal University, Darul Ihsan University, and various computer training institutions.
Speaking to reporters, DIA Director Professor MM Shahidul Islam said preparations are underway to send the list to the Ministry of Education, which will be urged to take necessary action.
