Assistant teachers of government primary schools have announced they will continue their complete shutdown despite a stern warning from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education directing them to resume duties immediately.

As per the new decision taken at a virtual meeting, they will continue the ongoing complete shutdown until a notification is issued fulfilling their three-point demand, including salary upgrades to the 11th-grade pay scale, for the time being.

Md Mahbubur Rahman, one of the conveners of the Primary Teachers' Demand Implementation Council, confirmed the matter to Jago News around 9:00 pm on Wednesday, December 3.

Earlier today, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education issued a warning to assistant teachers of government primary schools, directing them to immediately resume duties and conduct ongoing third-quarter and annual examinations, failing which they will face disciplinary and criminal proceedings.

The assistant teachers began the complete shutdown from today to press home their three demands.

The demands are for entry-level salaries at Grade 11 instead of the current Grade 13; resolving the complications around obtaining higher pay grades after completing 10 and 16 years in the job; and faster promotions, including 100 per cent promotion of assistant teachers to head teacher posts.
