JCD expels leader for contesting SUCSU election independently
The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has expelled a leader of its Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit, for contesting the university's Central Students’ Union (SUCSU) election as an independent candidate.
Md Junayed Hasan, the Joint General Secretary of Chhatra Dal SUST unit, was expelled for life from all organisational positions, according to a press release, signed by Chhatra Dal Office Secretary Jahangir Alam, issued on Monday night, January 19.
According to the press release, the decision was taken by the central council of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on charges of breaching organisational discipline. The expulsion was approved by the organisation’s Central President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.
The statement also directed leaders and activists at all levels of Chhatra Dal not to maintain any organizational contact with the expelled leader.
Speaking to reporters, Junayed Hasan said that he was contesting for the General Secretary (GS) post in the election as an independent candidate.
SUCSU is a platform for students, and there is no scope to withdraw from it, he said, adding that he was aware disciplinary action could follow for contesting outside the party.
He, however, claimed that he was not given an opportunity to explain his position before the decision was taken.
