Saudi Arabia won’t allow attacks on Iran from its territory
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a call on Tuesday that the Gulf kingdom would not permit attacks on Iran to be launched from its soil.
Prince Mohammed “affirmed during the call the kingdom's position on respecting the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and that the Kingdom will not allow its airspace or territory to be used for any military actions against” Iran, the Saudi foreign ministry said in a statement.
Earlier, on Monday, the United States announced that a US naval strike group led by an aircraft carrier had deployed to Middle Eastern waters, as Tehran warned it was prepared to retaliate against any American strike in response to a crackdown on anti-government protests.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, said, “The arrival of such a battleship will not affect Iran’s determination and seriousness in defending the Iranian nation.”
A senior military official told state television that the “buildup of extra-regional forces and equipment… would not act as a deterrent but rather increase their vulnerability and make them accessible targets.”
