Detectives in a drive detained a local councillor from Deura village in Barura upazila of Cumilla early Sunday in connection with a ‘leaked phone conversation’ with BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

The detainee was identified as Milhanur Rahman Naumi, son of Siddiqur Rahman Suruj and councilor of ward no 20 of Cumilla City Corporation.

He completed his Bar-at-Law from a university in London.

Naumi’s father Siddiqur said that a team of police raided the house of his sister and detained him around 7am.

When contacted Md. Shah Abid Hossain, Cumilla Superintendent of Police, said he was not informed about the matter.

Earlier on Saturday night, Jakaria Dastagir, general secretary of Chittagong Metropolitan unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), filed a case accusing Amir Khasru of attempting to create anarchy in the country over the phone conversion.
