Case filed against Netra News in Rangpur

A case has been filed against online news portal Netra News in Rangpur district under the Digital Security Act (DSA) accusing it of spreading anti-state propaganda.

Rangpur district unit Awami League vice president and freedom fighter advocate Ilyas Ahmed lodged the case against the portal as an organization with Cyber Tribunal, Rangpur on Wednesday afternoon.

A person, Hasinur Rahman, was also named in the lawsuit. Hails from Nather Patua Binoyghar village in Laksam upazila of Cumilla, he currently lives in the capital of Dhaka's Mirpur area.

The tribunal' judge Dr Abdul Majid took the case into cognizance and asked the police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to look into the allegations.

Confirming the matter, plaintiff Ilyas said Netra News from its Facebook ID has recently published a false, defamatory, and aggressive video titled 'DGFI's Secret Prison Aynar Ghar' which is against the state and the government.

In the video, propaganda has been spread against the law enforcement agencies and the government, resulting in more than Tk 50,000 crore damage, he added.
