11-year-old girl goes missing amid mother’s cancer treatment

An 11-year-old girl, Arabi Islam Suba, has gone missing while crossing the road in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. She arrived in the capital two months ago from Barishal to be with her mother during her lung cancer treatment.
Sources said that Suba left home around 6:00 pm on Sunday (February 2) with her younger cousin. However, while crossing the road, she disappeared. Suba was a sixth-grade student in a school in Barishal.
CCTV footage from the area shows Suba near Tokyo Square in Mohammadpur, walking with another person in addition to her cousin.
Her father, Imran Rajib, filed a General Diary (GD) at Adabor Police Station on Monday evening (February 3), seeking help to find his daughter.
Recently, Suba’s mother began chemotherapy at the National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital. On Sunday evening, Suba left home with her cousin. While crossing the road near Prince Bazar in the Krishi Market area, her cousin moved ahead after avoiding an oncoming vehicle. However, Suba never made it home.
Speaking about his missing daughter, Imran Rajib said, “Suba is a sixth-grade student in a school in Barishal. We have been staying at my sister’s (Suba’s aunt’s) house in Dhaka for the past two months for my wife’s cancer treatment.”
"On Sunday evening, Suba went out with her cousin. While crossing the road, her cousin moved ahead, and when he looked back, Suba was gone. I have filed a GD at Adabor Police Station, and the police have assured me they are trying their best," he added.
Confirming the case, SM Zakaria, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Adabor Police Station, said, “The child’s father has filed a missing person report. We are actively searching for her and reviewing CCTV footage from multiple nearby streets.”
Meanwhile, news of Suba’s disappearance has spread on social media, with many people sharing her photo and details on Facebook, urging others to help find her.
