New political party in the offing
The National Citizen Committee and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have announced that they would form a new political party soon.
The announcement was made during a joint press conference at the central office of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on Wednesday, February 5.
During the conference, Nasiruddin Patwari, Convenor of the National Citizen Committee, and Hasnat Abdullah, Convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, outlined a program to gather public opinions from across the country to support the formation of the new political party.
In a written statement, they mentioned that they will collect almost one lakh opinions regarding the new political party. They also invited the public to propose names and symbols for the new party.
Both of them expressed their commitment to ensuring the participation of grassroots and marginalised communities in the political process. They also remarked that the emerging political party should reflect the hopes and aspirations of all citizens in the new political arrangement.
With a pledge to rebuild Bangladesh, they stated that on August 5, 2024, the blood-soaked uprising of students and the public led to the fall of Awami League, and a government formed by the student and public uprising was established. Despite the fall of the fascist Awami League, the fascist elements present in the state structure remain intact.
They stated that in order to actively collect public opinions about what the people expect from the new political party and to determine key priorities that must be accepted for the country’s future, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and National Citizens' Committee have started a nationwide public opinion collection process.
