Man commits suicide after poisoning 2 children

A man reportedly poisoned his two minor daughters and took poison himself in Habiganj’s Chunarughat in the early hours of Friday, February 14, resulting in the deaths of trio.

The victims were Abdur Rouf, a resident of Atikpur village under Ranigaon union in the upazila, and his two daughters Khadija, 5, and Ayesha Aktar, 3.

Police and locals said Abdur Rouf and his wife Hafija would often quarrel. Two days ago, she along with one of their three children went to her father’s home after a quarrel. Following the row, Abdur Rouf poisoned two daughters and consumed poison himself around 2:00am today.

Later, they were rushed to Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared the two children dead and the man died around 10:30am.

Confirming the incident, Chunarughat police station’s officer-in-charge Mohammad Nur Alam said Abdur Rouf might have committed suicide over a family conflict.
