ISPR updates on Magura rape victim’s status at CMH

The 8-year-old girl raped in Magura is receiving intensive care at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka, where she remains on life support, according to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued Monday night, March 10.

The ISPR reported that the child was transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital to CMH’s Paediatric ICU on March 8 at 6:00pm in critical condition.

Upon arrival, she was unconscious, with blood pressure at 120/70 mmHg (with cardiac support), a heart rate of 118 beats per minute, and an oxygen saturation of 96%. She bore deep wounds on her neck and injuries to other sensitive areas.

A high-level medical board—comprising CMH Dhaka’s Commandant, Chief Surgeon General, and heads of Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Plastic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, along with senior anaesthesiologists and paediatric neurologists—was formed to oversee her treatment.

Initial tests, including CT scans of her abdomen, chest, and brain, an abdominal ultrasound, chest X-ray, and blood work, revealed pneumothorax (right side), acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and diffuse cerebral edema. Treatment began immediately, with daily tests and care continuing per ICU protocols.

The assault occurred on March 5 while the child was visiting her sister’s home in Magura Sadar Upazila. She remains on life support as medical efforts persist.
