EC suspends NID verification for 2 banks over data leak

Director General of the National Identity Registration Division of the Election Commission (EC), ASM Humayun Kabir, has said that the Commission learned on Tuesday that National ID (NID) information is being leaked from two organizations—Ansar VDP Unnayan Bank and BRAC Bank.

He made the remarks on Wednesday (May 7) while speaking to journalists at the Election Commission building in the capital.

“As credible evidence of data leaks has been found involving these two institutions, we have suspended NID verification services for both banks,” he said.

He added, “The data will remain secure for everyone. We have received reliable evidence and are currently conducting an investigation. Action will be taken against those responsible. We will uphold the trust the public has placed in us and will continue monitoring the situation. A committee will be formed to take the necessary steps.”
