Bangladeshi youth killed in BSF firing at Feni border

A Bangladeshi youth was shot dead and another injured by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) near the Baspadua border in Feni around midnight on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Md Millat Hossain, 21, son of Yusuf Mia from Baspadua area. The injured, Md Afshar, 31, is the son of the late Air Ahmad from the same locality.

According to local sources, Millat and Afshar crossed pillar 2164/3-S under the Guthuma Border Outpost (BOP) and approached the barbed wire fence inside Indian territory, when BSF personnel opened fire on them. Locals later rescued the injured and took them to Parshuram Upazila Health Complex, and later to Feni General Hospital, where Millat succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mosharaf Hossain, commanding officer of the 4 BGB Battalion in Feni, said the Baspadua border area is known for smuggling activities. Upon receiving news of the shooting, BGB personnel rushed to the scene. He added that a formal protest will be lodged by the BGB regarding the incident.
