10 injured in balloon blast at Manik Mia Avenue
At least 10 people were injured as some gas balloons exploded at the venue of 'July Mass Uprising Day' celebration at Dhaka's Manik Mia Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, August 5.
The injured have been identified as Majharul Islam, 27, Billal, 45, Fahat, 20, Md Munsur Islam, 38, Sharif, 32, Palash, 21, Md Habibullah, 23, Md Yasin, 25, Mishu, 23, and Mihat, 17.
A few balloons caught fire in front of the stage and shortly after, the fire went out, Rafi Al Faruque, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, told Jago News around 2:15pm.
Witnesses said the fire originated from short circuit of a sound system’s wire beside the stage and engulfed some balloons, leaving several individuals injured.
The injured were, however, rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital and they were released after primary treatment there.
