CEC warns against AI misuse as EC launches YouTube channel
The Election Commission (EC) has launched its official YouTube channel. Following the launch, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin delivered a video message to the nation, addressing the challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI).
The EC’s Public Relations Department confirmed the launch of the channel on Thursday (21 August).
In his message, the CEC said, “Recently, a major challenge has emerged before us—the misuse of artificial intelligence. False videos, fabricated content, and disinformation are being spread across social media.”
He urged citizens to remain cautious: “My request is that you do not immediately believe or share any information you receive. Please verify it first. If you are to trust or share something, do so only after proper verification.”
Welcoming citizens to the official channel, he said, “We are formally inaugurating this channel today. Through it, we aim to present all election-related information in a reliable, simple, and detailed manner.”
According to the CEC, the channel will primarily feature information about the Election Commission and election-related issues, including voter registration, electoral timelines, guidelines for candidates, and the duties and responsibilities of voters.
“Our main focus will be on engaging women, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalised communities in the electoral process, so they can consciously contribute to the democratization of the country,” he added.
Highlighting the importance of trust and transparency, the CEC said, “For a free, fair, and acceptable election, confidence in the electoral system and transparency in the process are crucial. We want to present our information in a comprehensive, credible, and accessible way to strengthen public trust.”
He also called for citizens’ participation in countering misinformation: “I hope you will regularly watch our videos and subscribe to this channel. Let us all join hands in fighting disinformation. On behalf of the Election Commission, I call for collective efforts to counter the spread of falsehoods on social media. Citizens will also find authentic election-related information on the official Facebook page of the Election Commission Secretariat. We want the participation of the nation in this initiative.”
