Ex-DIG Nahid arrested in Dhaka

AKM Nahidul Islam, former deputy inspector general (DIG) of Police, has been arrested in Dhaka.

The Detective Branch (DB) the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) apprehended him, also former superintendent of Police, Meherpur, from his home at Eskatan in Dhaka in the early hours of Saturday, September 13.

Nahidul Islam was arrested based on intelligence information following an arrest warrant issued by the International Crimes Tribunal, a DB official seeking anonymity confirmed today.

Sources said he is the prime accused in a case filed over the murder of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Tarique Mohammad Saiful Islam, also the elder son of Meherpur district unit Jamaat's former amir Samir Uddin.
