Police, July fighters clash in JS area; vehicles vandalised

A clash broke out between police and July fighters at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) on Friday, during which several police vehicles were vandalised. Protesters also set fire to the road in front of the MP Hostel near the Parliament building around 1:45 pm, igniting plastic materials and tires. The clash initially erupted around 1:25 pm.

July fighters had taken position in the area earlier, staging a sit-in in front of Gate No. 12 of the South Plaza around 11:45 am. They demanded three points, including state recognition for students and citizens injured during the July uprising, and called for their demands to be included in the July National Charter–2025 and implemented without delay.

The charter signing ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm at the South Plaza, with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus set to chair the event.

However, the National Citizen Party (NCP) has decided not to sign the July National Charter at this time and will refrain from attending the ceremony. The decision was announced in a statement sent to the media by the party’s Media Cell Secretary, Mushfiq-us-Saleheen, at midnight on Thursday (October 16).
