Savar will become city corp, Keraniganj to go under DSCC

The government has decided, in principle, to form a new city corporation covering Savar municipality and Ashulia on the outskirts of Dhaka and include Keraniganj under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, adviser to the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry, shared this information in a post on his verified Facebook Page on Tuesday afternoon, October 21.

The deputy commissioner (DC) of Dhaka sent a letter to the Cabinet Division to transform Savar municipality and Ashulia into a city corporation considering its importance, a Cabinet Division official, who declined to be named, told Jago News.

The Cabinet Division sent a file regarding this to the Chief Adviser for his approval and the Chief Adviser approved, in principle, for the formation of Savar City Corporation, the official said, adding that the approval was, later, sent to the Local Government Division.

Mentioning that the matter is in its very initial stage, the official said the LGRD will now do various tasks, including feasibility test.

City corporation will complete the activities from their end and notify the Cabinet Division about progress which would, later, be presented at the meeting of National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reforms (NICAR) for approval, he added.
