Water lily picking goes tragic, 4 children drown

Four children drowned while picking water lily in a water body (beel) in Meherpur's Sadar on Sunday afternoon, November 9.

The deceased were identified as Fatema, 14, Afiya, 12, Mim, 14, and Aliya, 13, residents of Rajnagar village in the upazila.

Locals said four children together went to Moshuribhaja Beel this afternoon to pick water lily. Family members and locals started searching for them when they did not return home for long, and at stage, they spotted their bodies floating on the water.

Later, Meherpur Fire Service, and police personnel recovered the bodies and handed over these to family members.

Sadar police station's officer-in-charge, Mesbahuddin, confirmed the matter of four children's deaths.
