University student among 3 die as bus rams auto-rickshaw

Three people, including a university student, were killed and six others injured as a bus rammed an auto-rickshaw in Rajshahi's Puthia on Sunday afternoon, January 25.

Among the deceased, one was identified as Shanto Islam, a student of Varendra University.

A bus hit an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in Pollapukur area on the Rajshahi-Natore highway, leaving one dead on the spot and eight others injured, said Rajshahi highway police station's officer-in-charge Mozammel Haque.

Out of the injured, two others, including a woman, died on the way to the hospital, he said.

After the incident, students from Varendra University and locals blocked the Rajshahi-Natore highway, alleging negligence of the police in their duty.

A few kilometres of long tailback formed on the highway due to the blockade, causing suffering to commuters.
