Three and a half hours of hope, then heartbreak in Raozan

The three-year-old child who was rescued after falling into a deep tubewell hole in Raozan upazila of Chattogram has died.

The child, identified as Misbah (also known locally as Mejbah), was declared dead at 9:05 pm on Wednesday, January 28, while undergoing treatment at Raozan Upazila Health Complex.

The incident occurred around 4:00 pm the same day in Joynagar village of Ward 7 under Kadalpur Union. After falling into the open tubewell hole, the child remained trapped for about three and a half hours before being rescued.

Fire Service sources said several of their units rushed to the spot upon receiving information and conducted a prolonged rescue operation. The child was unconscious at the time of rescue and was immediately taken to hospital.

Raozan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sajedul Islam confirmed the death, telling Jago News, “After a long 3.5-hour rescue operation, the child was rescued and sent to the hospital immediately. He later died while undergoing treatment.”

 

Following the incident, a pall of grief descended on the area. Local residents alleged that the tubewell hole had been left uncovered, raising concerns over negligence, child safety and proper supervision.
