Ex-DMP chief Habibur indicted in Jatrabari Taim killing

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Sunday, February 22, indicted 11 people, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman, in a case over the murder of Imam Hasan Taim, son of a police officer, during the July uprising.

The three-member bench of ICT-2, headed by its Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam, framed the charges and ordered the start of trial in the case.

The tribunal also fixed March 29 for hearing the deposition of the witnesses in the case.

Among the accused, former officer-in-charge of Jatrabari police station Abul Hasan and former sub-inspector of the police station Shahadat Ali, who were arrested, were produced before the tribunal.

The other accused in the case are—joint commissioner of DMP Sudeep Kumar Chakraborty, former deputy commissioner of Wari Zone Iqbal Hossain, former additional deputy commissioner Shakil Mohamamd Shamim, former additional deputy commissioner (Demra), Masudur Rahman Manir, former assistant police commissioner Nahid Ferdous, former inspector of Jatrabari Police Station, Zakir Hossain, former Inspector Ohidul Haque Mamun and former sub-inspector Sazzad-uz-Zaman.

Prosecutor Mizanul Islam stood for prosecution while Advocate M Hasan Imam and Lokman Hawlader represented the state.

On January 24, the tribunal submitted a chargesheet against the 11 accused.

Imam Hasan Taim, son of Moynal Hossain Bhuiya, sub-inspector of Rajarbagh Police Lines, was shot dead during the July uprising in Kajla of Jatrabari area on July 20, 2024.
