A local BNP leader in Jhalakathi district has been sued under the Digital Security Act for allegedly making derogatory comments on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The district Chhatra League former president Md Sabbir Khan lodged the case with Razapur Police Station on Wednesday night.

Accused Rafiqul Islam Jamal is a member of the district BNP convening committee, and he contested Jhalakathi-1 seat as a BNP candidate in the 2008 general election but conceded defeat.

The case statement said Jamal spread false and defamatory information about the country's distinguished politicians, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, from his Facebook ID around 10:31pm on July 4 aiming to damage the country's image.

Confirming the case filing, Razapur Police Station officer in-charge (investigation) Animesh Mondal on Thursday afternoon said they were trying to arrest the accused.
