Arrest warrant issued against Khaleda

A Narail court on Tuesday issued an arrest warrant against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for her derogatory comments on the number of martyrs during the Liberation War of 1971.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Jahidul Azad issued the arrest warrant as she did not appear before the court despite summons issued by the court against her.

On July 25, the court summoned Khaleda to appear before it Tuesday.

Earlier, Rayhan Faruki Imam of Chapail village in Naragati upazila filed the case with the court on December 24, 2015 over Khaleda’s controversial comments about the number of martyrs during the Liberation War.

Addressing a discussion in Dhaka on December 21 last year, the BNP chairperson said that there was a controversy over the actual number of martyrs during the country’s Liberation War.

‘There is still a controversy about the exact number of people martyred in the Liberation War,’ Khaleda said adding that different books and documents show different numbers in this regards.
