Foreign Affairs Adviser M Touhid Hossain has said that BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, currently staying in London, has not yet applied for a travel pass to return to Bangladesh.

Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, Touhid said that if Tarique Rahman chooses to request the pass, it will be issued “without delay.” He added that the government has so far received no formal communication regarding Tarique’s plans to return to Dhaka.

The adviser also said the government is prepared to make the necessary arrangements for BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to travel abroad for medical treatment, should the BNP leadership or her family decide.

Khaleda Zia, 80, has long been battling multiple health complications, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis and kidney problems.
