Chief Adviser of the interim government Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus visited ailing BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday evening to inquire about her health.

Prof Yunus arrived at the hospital shortly after 7:00pm, where he was received by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

According to BNP Media Wing official Shairul Kabir Khan, Mirza Fakhrul accompanied the Chief Adviser directly to Khaleda Zia’s cabin.

Khaleda’s personal physicians – Prof AZM Zahid Hossain and Prof Shahabuddin Talukder – were present during the brief visit.

Khaleda Zia has been admitted to Evercare Hospital for 11 days and remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She is currently receiving treatment under a medical board comprising local and foreign specialists. UK-based physician Dr Richard Beale arrived in Dhaka earlier on Wednesday to join her treatment team.

Prof Yunus left the hospital around 7:30pm.

The 79-year-old former prime minister has been under treatment at Evercare since August 2024 for multiple chronic health issues, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, and cardiac complications.
