US ambassador meets Jamaat amir; discuss polls, state reforms
Brent T Christensen, the United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, met with Jamaat-e-Islami amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Wednesday.
The meeting took place on Thursday (29 January) at 8:00 am at the Jamaat amir’s office in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
During the discussion, they exchanged views on a range of issues, including Bangladesh’s current political and economic situation, industry and trade, the upcoming national parliamentary elections, state reforms, and the Rohingya crisis.
Ambassador Christensen praised Jamaat-e-Islami for its contributions to Bangladesh’s economic development and democratic progress. Both sides expressed optimism that bilateral relations between the two countries would continue to strengthen.
Accompanying the US Ambassador were Political and Economic Counselor Eric Gilman, Public Officer Monica L. Sai, Political Officer James Stewart, and Political Specialist Firoz Ahmed from the US Embassy.
Present with the Jamaat amir were Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Division, Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer; Central Executive Council member Md Mobarak Hossain; and the Amir’s foreign affairs adviser, Professor Dr Mahmudul Hasan.
