Fast ball, fatal rage: Youth stabbed dead by uncle on cricket field
What began as a friendly cricket match in a quiet village field ended in shocking bloodshed, as a heated argument over fast bowling turned deadly in Moulvibazar’s Rajnagar upazila.
The victim, 22-year-old Tarek, was allegedly stabbed to death by his own uncle, Atik, of the same age, following a sudden clash during a local cricket game on Wednesday afternoon, February 25, just before iftar.
According to local residents, a group of youths had gathered at a field in the Ghargaon area for their regular cricket match. Witnesses said tensions flared when Atik objected to Tarek’s fast bowling, leading to a verbal altercation in the middle of the game.
What followed stunned everyone present.
In a burst of rage, Atik allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and attacked Tarek indiscriminately. The young cricketer collapsed on the field, bleeding heavily, as players and spectators froze in horror.
Locals rushed the critically injured Tarek to Rajnagar Upazila Health Complex. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead shortly after arrival.
The killing has left the entire Ghargaon community in shock, with residents struggling to comprehend how a trivial dispute during a game could escalate into murder.
Officer-in-Charge Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan of Rajnagar Police Station confirmed the incident and said police are taking necessary legal action.
The gruesome incident has cast a dark shadow over the village, turning a symbol of youthful joy and community bonding into a scene of irreversible tragedy.
