BTRC directs to block harmful online games

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has directed the authorities concerned to block access to harmful online games, including PUBG and Free Fire, in the country.

"On Tuesday, we asked the Department of Telecommunications to block access to PUBG and Free Fire," BTRC Chairman Subrata Roy Maitra told Jago News on Wednesday.

Besides, the government will write to the authorities of TikTok, Bigo Live, Likee, and similar apps to shut down the social media platforms and remove links of these from Bangladesh.

Mentioning that users can access the apps through VPN despite the blockade, he said, "We do not have the capacity to block these. That is why a letter would be sent to the apps' authorities to do."

Earlier, the High Court has directed the government to remove all kinds of harmful games from online platforms.
