Starlink officially launches in Bangladesh

Starlink has officially launched its services in Bangladesh. Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, confirmed the development in a Facebook post on Tuesday morning.

He wrote, “On Monday (May 19) afternoon, they informed me about the development via a phone call, and this morning they confirmed it through a post on their X handle.”

“Initially, Starlink is offering two packages—Starlink Residential and Residential Lite. The monthly costs for these packages are Tk 6,000 and Tk 4,200, respectively. Additionally, a one-time setup fee of Tk 47,000 will be required,” he added.

Faiz Ahmad further stated, “There are no speed or data limits. Individual users will have access to unlimited data at speeds of up to 300 Mbps. Customers in Bangladesh can begin placing orders starting today. This fulfills Sir’s vision of launching the service within 90 days.”

He noted, “Although the service is expensive, it offers a sustainable, high-quality, high-speed internet option for premium users.”

The special assistant also mentioned, “This will create opportunities for companies to expand their businesses in areas where fiber or high-speed internet has not yet reached. NGOs, freelancers, and entrepreneurs will be assured of uninterrupted, high-speed internet throughout the year.”

“The Honorable Chief Adviser has congratulated everyone involved,” he added.

Owned by SpaceX, Starlink provides internet services via Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. It is particularly effective in delivering high-speed internet to remote and rural regions.

Experts say that in countries like Bangladesh—where many remote areas still lack fiber optic or broadband connectivity—Starlink could emerge as a promising solution.
