Essential commodity prices drop over five months

The prices of essential commodities have declined notably over the past five months, with most items also cheaper this year compared to last Ramadan.

This includes staples like rice, wheat, pulses, chicken, eggs, fish, soybeans, palm oil, sugar, salt, potatoes, tomatoes, chilies, onions, ginger, garlic, and turmeric.

Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad shared these insights, citing data collected by the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) from grocery stores and poultry markets between November 2024 and March 2025.

According to the data, prices for various rice types (Nazirshail, Miniket, BR28, Guti, and Pajam) and wheat (loose and packaged flour) have remained stable from November to March.

While rice prices have seen a slight uptick compared to last Ramadan, wheat prices—both loose and packaged flour—have decreased.
