Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said a letter has been sent to the Government of India requesting the extradition of the accused in the Osman Hadi murder case to Bangladesh.

He stated, “Through our Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we have sent a formal request for their extradition to Bangladesh.”

The minister made the remarks on Thursday while speaking to journalists after paying tributes at the Razarbagh Police Memorial on the occasion of the National and Independence Day.

Regarding the investigation into the Hadi murder, the Home Minister said proceedings are ongoing. “A charge sheet was previously submitted, but it appears further investigation is underway as the earlier submission was not accepted. Meanwhile, in India, two of the accused were first arrested, followed by the arrest of another individual.”

He added, “To bring them back, we have sent a formal request through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with arrest warrants, so that under the extradition agreement, these individuals can be handed over to Bangladesh in accordance with the law.”

On a question about police reform, the minister said, “We are currently in discussions with several advanced countries regarding the reform of the Bangladesh Police. The aim is to enhance standards and build capacity to make the force more efficient.”

He further stated, “We are seeking assistance, often referred to as advisory and technical support. In areas like training and capacity building, we will receive support from developed countries. We are requesting the necessary cooperation from them.”
