Saudia Group has signed a significant agreement with Airbus to acquire up to 20 A330neo wide-body aircraft, including 10 firm orders for its low-cost carrier, flyadeal.

This deal, aimed at modernising the fleet and expanding operational reach, could enhance regional connectivity, tourism, and economic growth for Bangladesh.

The A330neo, known for its efficiency, long range, and versatility, supports Saudia Group’s goal to reach more destinations. Deliveries are set to begin in 2027, meeting the rising demand for air travel between Saudi Arabia and neighbouring countries, including Bangladesh.

As a key partner in trade, tourism, and travel, Bangladesh stands to gain from improved flight connectivity and potential aviation and tourism collaborations.

The agreement aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which targets connecting 250 destinations and attracting millions of tourists by 2030, likely increasing tourist traffic with Bangladesh, said a press release.

The signing took place at Airbus’s factory in Toulouse, France, attended by Engr. Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group, and Christian Scherer, CEO of Airbus’s Commercial Aircraft business. The deal was signed by Saleh Eid, Saudia Group’s Vice President of Fleet Management, and Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus’s Executive Vice President of Sales for Commercial Aircraft.

Ibrahim Al-Omar stated, “This deal is a milestone in our strategy to modernize and expand our fleet, building on last year’s historic 105-aircraft agreement with Airbus. It supports Saudi Vision 2030’s goals of connecting 250 destinations and facilitating over 330 million travellers and 150 million tourists by 2030.”

Saudia Group, currently operating 194 aircraft across commercial, cargo, and logistics services, plans to add 191 new aircraft. This expansion not only advances Saudi Arabia’s economic vision but also opens new avenues for enhanced air connectivity with Bangladesh.
