3rd round of Dhaka-Washington tariff talks underway
The third round of Bangladesh-US tariff negotiations formally commenced in Washington, DC, on July 29 at 2:00pm local time (12:00am BST).
Informal discussions began earlier at 12:30pm (10:30pm BST) and are scheduled to continue until 5:30pm (3:30am BST).
The talks will resume on July 30 at 9:00am local time (7:00pm BST), according to Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
The Bangladesh delegation, led by Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin, arrived in Washington on the morning of July 29.
The team includes National Security Adviser to the Chief Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Dr Nazneen Kawsar Chowdhury.
Additional officials from various ministries and departments are participating virtually from Dhaka.
The US delegation is led by Assistant Trade Representative Brendan Lynch, accompanied by trade and customs officials.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, DC, is coordinating the entire tariff negotiation process.
