Major reshuffle in NBR: 182 officers transferred
A major reshuffle has been carried out in the tax department through separate orders issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and the Ministry of Finance on Monday (15 September). A total of 182 assistant revenue officers have been transferred, while a joint tax commissioner has been sent on compulsory retirement and a tax inspector has been temporarily suspended.
According to a notification from Tanvir Ahmed, Second Secretary of NBR (Customs and VAT Administration), the 182 officials have been transferred to new postings.
Meanwhile, two other major decisions were announced in separate orders issued by the Internal Resources Division of the Ministry of Finance and the NBR.
A letter from the Internal Resources Division stated that Joint Tax Commissioner Md Jahangir Alam, serving in Tax Zone-16, has been sent into compulsory retirement. The letter mentioned that since he has completed 25 years of service, the government considered it necessary, in the public interest, to retire him under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018. He will receive all retirement benefits as per regulations.
On the other hand, Tax Inspector Kazi Nure Sohela, posted in Gazipur, has been temporarily suspended. An order signed by NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan stated that she has been accused of “misconduct” and “absconding.”
The order said that, based on these allegations, departmental action will be taken against her under Sections 3(b) and 3(c) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018. Under Rule 12, she has been temporarily suspended and attached as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Gazipur Tax Commissioner’s office. During the suspension period, she will receive subsistence allowance as per regulations. The order, issued in the public interest, takes immediate effect.
