JCD leader shot dead in Pabna
A leader of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was shot and hacked to death allegedly by unidentified assailants in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna district on Thursday night.
The incident took place around 10:30 pm near Sarda Gopalpur High School in the municipal area.
The deceased, Imran Hossain Sohag, 26, was the convener of a proposed upazila committee and was also the member secretary of the local unit of Zia Cyber Force.
According to police and witnesses, Sohag was sitting at a tea stall beside a railway line with friends when a group of assailants, their faces covered with black cloth, approached and launched the attack.
The attackers, at one point, hacked him indiscriminately and opened fire before fleeing the scene, leaving Sohag dead on the spot.
On information, a team of police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Pabna General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Ishwardi Circle) Pranab Kumar.
“Part of his head was severely damaged. Preliminary findings suggest he was hacked to death,” he said, adding that bullet casings were recovered from the scene.
The motive behind the killing could not be known immediately, he added.
