The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) has launched the ICMAB Start-up Incubation Centre (ISIC) — a pioneering initiative aimed at fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable business practices in Bangladesh.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Monday (3 November) at the ICMA Bhaban in Nilkhet, Dhaka, was attended by senior government officials, industry leaders and professionals from the technology and finance sectors.

Shish Haider Chowdhury, Secretary of the ICT Division, inaugurated the centre as the Chief Guest. Commending ICMAB’s vision, he said the new incubation centre would play a key role in building a culture of innovation crucial for Bangladesh’s transformation into a knowledge-based economy.

Murtuza Zulkar Nain Noman, Project Director (Joint Secretary) of the Innovation Design & Entrepreneurship Academy (iDEA) under the Bangladesh Computer Council, attended as Special Guest, while Siddhartho Goshwami, Senior Consultant and Head of Operations at the ICT Division, participated as a Resource Person.

The ISIC seeks to establish ICMAB as a national hub for technology-driven start-ups in the accounting and finance sectors, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will nurture research-based, socially responsible and sustainable enterprises that contribute to employment generation, technological advancement and long-term economic growth.

ICMAB President Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said, “The conventional way doesn’t always work. To move forward, we must innovate and develop new approaches to meet the evolving needs of our nation. The ISIC marks the beginning of a journey towards fostering entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability for a smarter, knowledge-driven Bangladesh.”

Following the inauguration, a View Exchange Session took place with ICMAB members, students and industry stakeholders.

Mohammed Salim, Council Member and Past President, delivered the welcome address, while Siddhartho Goshwami gave a presentation on ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Digital Era’. Mohammed Jahangir Alam, Council Member, also shared insights on embedding entrepreneurial thinking within the CMA profession.

Both the Chief and Special Guests praised ICMAB’s forward-looking initiative, highlighting its alignment with the Government’s ‘Smart Bangladesh’ vision driven by creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Md Kausar Alam, Vice-President of ICMAB, concluded the event with closing remarks, emphasising the importance of continued collaboration among academia, industry and government to achieve sustainable national development.
