Ulkasemi launches UVTI to boost Bangladesh’s entry into global semiconductor industry
Ulkasemi, Bangladesh’s pioneering semiconductor design company, officially inaugurated the Ulkasemi VLSI Training Institute (UVTI) on Tuesday, November 11, to build a skilled workforce for the country’s emerging role in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
The ceremony was graced by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, the Chief Advisor’s special assistant for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, as chief guest.
The event was attended by distinguished faculty members from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, United International University, Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), and alongside industry leaders and aspiring engineers.
UVTI will initially offer hands-on training in IC Layout Design, IC Physical Design, and Circuit Design, delivered by Ulkasemi’s experienced semiconductor professionals. Future modules will expand into IT and Firmware, ensuring trainees gain comprehensive exposure.
The institute will serve as a critical bridge between academia and real-world chip design practice. Trainees will work with industry-standard EDA tools and gain mentorship from Ulkasemi’s experienced engineers who have latest technological nodes knowledge. This direct industry linkage positions UVTI graduates for both local and global semiconductor opportunities.
“As the world’s semiconductor industry is growing, we are trying to go as well. We are planning to have world class 1,000 employees by 2026-27 and 5,000 employees within 2030. Then we can compete to the other countries and UVTI would play a significant role to achieve that goal,” said Mohammed Enayetur Rahman, CEO of Ulkasemi.
This initiative will advance the nation’s ‘Smart Bangladesh’ vision and help position Bangladesh to participate in the global $1 trillion semiconductor market.
Speaking at the event, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb underscored the semiconductor industry as a future economic pillar for Bangladesh, noting that the current government is actively driving policies and initiatives to accelerate the nation’s semiconductor expansion.
