France eyes investing in Bangladesh’s pharma, ICT sectors
France has signalled strong interest in expanding its investments in Bangladesh, with a particular focus on the pharmaceutical and information and communication technology (ICT) sectors.
The intent was conveyed by French Ambassador Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet during a meeting with Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin at the Ministry of Commerce on Monday afternoon.
The discussion covered a range of issues related to bilateral trade, investment, and broader economic cooperation.
Ambassador Séré-Charlet noted that France has long supported the development of trade ties with Bangladesh and now seeks to deepen that relationship through targeted investments.
“The French government sees significant potential in Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical and ICT industries,” he said, adding that Paris is keen to facilitate greater private-sector engagement in these high-growth areas.
Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir welcomed the overture, describing France as a “trusted and longstanding trade partner.”
He highlighted Bangladesh’s competitive advantages, including low labour and production costs, which he said offer “attractive returns for French investors.”
He also stressed that increased French investment would bolster capital inflows and contribute positively to the national economy.
Additional Secretary (Export) Md Abdur Rahim Khan also attended the meeting.
The dialogue marks a step toward strengthening economic collaboration between the two countries, as Bangladesh seeks to attract high-value foreign direct investment in strategic sectors.
