Gold prices drop twice in a day

Gold prices in the country fell again on Monday, February 2, marking two reductions within just five hours, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) reported.

The price of 22-carat gold per bhori (11.664 grams) was reduced by Tk 5,423 in the afternoon, bringing the new rate to Tk 2,45,760. The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of BAJUS announced the revised rates, which took effect from 3:45 pm.

A notification, signed by the BAJUS’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring Chairman Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shahin, confirmed the matter.

Earlier in the day, 22-carat gold had already fallen by Tk 6,590 from 10:45 am and by Tk 1,925 overnight. This resulted in a total one-day decline of Tk 13,939 — the first time gold prices have changed three times in a single day in Bangladesh.

Other gold prices were also reduced, with 21-carat gold falling to Tk 2,34,563 per bhori (down Tk 5,191), 18-carat gold to Tk 2,01,087 per bhori (down Tk 4,433), and traditional gold to Tk 1,64,521 per bhori (down Tk 3,674).

Silver prices also declined, with 22-carat silver falling to Tk 6,357 per bhori (down Tk 933), 21-carat silver to Tk 6,065 per bhori (down Tk 875), 18-carat silver to Tk 5,202 per bhori (down Tk 747), and traditional silver to Tk 3,907 per bhori (down Tk 525).

The price drops reflect both global market fluctuations and local demand trends, affecting buyers and sellers nationwide.
