Khasru outlines investment, employment plans for Ctg port
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has outlined plans to enhance Chattogram port operations, increase investment, and create employment, aiming to establish the city as Bangladesh’s true commercial capital.
Speaking to reporters at Shah Amanat International Airport on Friday morning, February 20, he said, “The development of Chattogram as a commercial capital starts now. There is vast potential for investment that we must harness. Port operations need improvement, investments must grow, and employment opportunities must expand. Investment is the backbone of a commercial capital.”
On being asked about specific initiatives, he replied, “Several plans are in place, but they cannot be summarized in one statement.” He also emphasized that employment creation remains one of the country’s most critical challenges.
This marks Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury’s first visit to his home district since assuming office. His itinerary included visiting his parents’ graves in Uttar Kattali, attending Friday prayers at Kadamtali Madarbari Jame Mosque, and meeting local party leaders at his residence in Mehedibagh.
Later in the day, he is scheduled to hold a discussion with leaders of port service organisations to explore strategies for enhancing Chattogram port operations. He is set to return to Dhaka by flight at 8:25 pm.
Reflecting on the visit, Khasru said, “It is encouraging to be back. With an elected parliament and government, we must work collectively to meet the aspirations of the Bangladeshi people and take coordinated steps for the development of Chattogram.”
