I’ve heard I am no longer in position: BB Governor

After rumours of his removal from office, current Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur was seen leaving Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday. When asked by reporters about the matter, he said, “I am hearing about it, but I don’t know anything.”

When questioned whether he had resigned or been removed, he briefly replied, “I don’t know anything, but I’ve heard that I am no longer in the position.”

Sources said that the process of relieving Ahsan H Mansur from his duties as Governor of Bangladesh Bank and appointing a new governor has begun. Preparations are reportedly underway to appoint Mostaqur Rahman as the new Governor.

Information from multiple sources within the Ministry of Finance and Bangladesh Bank indicates that a scholar currently working at a university in the United States is being considered for the post. A proposal regarding this appointment has been sent from the Ministry of Finance to the Prime Minister’s Office for approval. Once the process is completed, a final decision could be announced today (Wednesday).
