GP, PRAN-RFL launch Tk 1,899 4G cloud phone to expand digital access
Grameenphone and PRAN RFL Group have jointly launched the GP co-branded Proton Jet 4G Cloud phone, aiming to accelerate affordable internet access and expand digital inclusion across Bangladesh.
The companies unveiled the device, priced at Tk 1,899, making it the lowest-priced 4G cloud phone currently available in the country, according to a press release issued by Grameenphone on Thursday.
Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer Yasir Azman and PRAN-RFL Group Chairman and CEO Ahsan Khan Chowdhury attended the launch ceremony held at GP House in Dhaka. Senior officials from both organisations, including Chief Product Officer Solaiman Alam, Chief Business Officer Dr Asif Naimur Rashid, and RFL Managing Director RN Paul, were also present.
The Proton Jet 4G Cloud phone comes with the built-in MyGP app and CloudChat, allowing users to make video calls with both Android and iOS devices. The device is designed to enable first-time users to access internet services, digital platforms, and communication tools at an affordable cost.
To boost adoption, Grameenphone is offering bundled data benefits. Customers will receive 1GB of free internet valid for seven days upon purchase. In addition, users can buy 2GB of data for Tk24 with seven-day validity once daily for up to six months through a special package.
Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to expanding connectivity and creating digital opportunities. He noted that the affordable device is expected to help millions of people, especially first-time users, join the digital ecosystem.
PRAN-RFL Group Chairman Ahsan Khan Chowdhury said the partnership demonstrates a shared goal of delivering affordable digital solutions. He added that the Proton Jet 4G Cloud phone is designed to extend connectivity benefits to underserved communities and support Bangladesh’s transition towards a more inclusive digital economy.
Industry observers say affordable smart and cloud devices remain key to increasing internet penetration, particularly among low-income and rural users, as telecom operators and manufacturers compete to expand their customer base in Bangladesh’s growing digital market.
