Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, gold prices in Bangladesh dropped twice in a single day, falling a total of Tk 15,338 per bhori (11.664 grams) on Thursday. The price of the highest-quality 22-carat gold now stands at Tk 254,625 per bhori.

In the morning, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) cut the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 7,640 per bhori, followed by a further reduction of Tk 7,698 per bhori in the afternoon.

BAJUS explained that the price drop reflects a decline in the local market price of pure gold. The decision was made during a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Thursday. The committee’s chairman, Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shahin, confirmed the price cut in an official notice.

Earlier, on 14 March, the price of high-quality gold had been reduced by Tk 2,683 per bhori after two prior cuts, marking Thursday’s drop as the fourth consecutive reduction.

Following the latest cut, 21-carat gold fell by Tk 7,349 to Tk 243,019 per bhori, 18-carat gold dropped by Tk 6,299 to Tk 208,319 per bhori, and traditional (Sonaton) gold declined by Tk 5,132 to Tk 169,653 per bhori.
