Ebtedayi teachers continue protest despite baton-charge

Teachers of Ebtedayi Madrasas, demanding the nationalisation of their jobs, have continued their demonstration even three hours after a baton-charge by the police.
As of 3:45pm on Sunday (January 26), the protesting teachers remained stationed on the road in front of the Faculty of Fine Art at Dhaka University, refusing to leave until their demands are met.
Speaking to Jago News, Rafiqul Islam, one of the protesting teachers, expressed anger over the police action, stating, "People old enough to be the policemen's fathers have come here to protest and were humiliated. What kind of justice is this? This is Hasina's police. We won’t leave until an announcement comes from above regarding our demands. We are determined to achieve our legitimate rights."
The protesters claim they were injured during what they describe as an unprovoked attack by police while peacefully demonstrating for their demands.
Meanwhile, the Faculty of Fine Arts area remains tense, as a large number of police equipped with water cannons, armoured vehicles, and batons stand guard in front of the protesters.
