High-speed internet installation underway in all govt pry schools
To enhance the use of technology in primary education, high-speed broadband internet connections are being installed in all 65,567 government primary schools across the country. So far, installation work has been completed in around 18,000 schools, while efforts are underway to connect the remaining schools as quickly as possible.
The initiative is being implemented under the first revised Establishing Digital Connectivity (EDC) project, led by the Department of Information and Communication Technology under the ICT Division.
According to sources, the project is scheduled for completion by June 2025. To meet the deadline, internet service provider (ISP) companies have been instructed to continue their work even during public holidays, including Eid-ul-Azha.
ISPs have also been directed to prepare upazila-based action plans and notify the respective upazila education officers and headteachers at least three days in advance.
Meanwhile, a recent letter from the Directorate of Primary Education stated that the necessary network infrastructure has already been established in the remaining government primary schools. The installation of internet connections is currently in progress, with instructions to complete the process as soon as possible.
Emphasis has also been placed on ensuring necessary support from educational institutions during the installation and coordination phases.
Officials involved in the project have expressed optimism that its successful implementation will mark the beginning of a new era in primary education. With broadband internet access, both teachers and students will be able to easily access online educational resources and become familiar with technology-based learning systems.
