Engineering students announce boycott of classes, exams
The Engineers’ Rights Movement has announced a programme to boycott classes and examinations at all engineering universities and the engineering faculties of other universities across the country on Thursday.
The announcement was made by the organisation’s president, Md Waliullah, at Shahbagh intersection in the capital around 10:30 pm on Wednesday (27 August).
Waliullah said, “From Thursday, classes and examinations will be boycotted at all engineering universities and the engineering faculties of other universities. If our demands are not met, we will announce the next course of action at a press conference to be held at 5 pm at the Council Hall of the Institution of Engineers.”
Condemning Wednesday’s police action, he said, “During our march towards Jamuna, we came under a despicable attack by police. More than 50 engineering students were injured, many of whom are now hospitalised. We have raised this issue clearly with the advisers.”
He further stated, “Let me be clear regarding our programme—we placed three demands, none of which has been fulfilled. Our movement will continue.”
