BAU shut sine die, students asked to vacate dorms
Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has been declared closed for an indefinite period following an attack by outsiders on students protesting for a combined degree. At the same time, students have been instructed to vacate their dormitories by 9:00 am on Monday (1 September).
The decision was confirmed on Sunday (31 August) night by Professor Dr. GM Mujibur Rahman, a syndicate member of the university.
According to university sources, the Academic Council convened an emergency syndicate meeting online around 9:30 pm in light of the situation. Based on the meeting’s decision, the university was declared closed indefinitely.
Professor Mujibur Rahman said the university could not remain open under such circumstances. He added that the decision was taken based on the opinions of members during the syndicate meeting. The BAU administration has also asked local law enforcement agencies to ensure security on the campus.
